Sol Campbell makes claim about Arsenal star Theo Walcott
Sol Campbell delivers an assessment of Theo Walcott's situation at Arsenal ahead of Saturday's north London derby
Sol Campbell has claimed that Arsene Wenger does not know Theo Walcott’s best position for Arsenal.
The England international came in for plenty of criticism for a below-par display as Arsenal were beaten 3-2 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Walcott has been deployed both out wide and in a central striking role for Arsenal in recent seasons.
Former Arsenal defender Campbell has not been impressed by the way Wenger has handled Walcott’s situation this season and wants to see the Frenchman become a “real mentor” for the forward.
Speaking exclusively to 888sport, Campbell said: “He’s a great lad who has played for England and done very well. He doesn’t deserve all that. He (Wenger) needs to set the team up and explain to Theo where he wants him on the pitch.
“What is his best position? As a centre-forward or out wide coming in?
“That conversation needs to happen between the manager and player and it needs to be a frank and honest conversation. He needs to get into his head and play the game for him and show him the light. Be a real mentor.”
Walcott will be hoping to feature when Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime.
The Gunners are looking to bounce back from their 2-1 loss to Swansea on Wednesday night but know that victory over their bitter local rivals would move them level on points with Spurs.
