Sol Campbell: Why Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger deserves credit
Sol Campbell heaps praise on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
Sol Campbell says Arsene Wenger got his tactics spot on for Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.
Aaron Ramsey edged the Gunners into a first-half lead with a close-range finish which beat Hugo Lloris.
Francis Coquelin received his marching orders in the second half after Aaron Ramsey had given Arsenal a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.
Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane scored twice in two second-half minutes to give Tottenham a 2-1 advantage before Alexis Sanchez’s late equaliser.
And Campbell believes Wenger deserves credit for getting his tactics right against Spurs in the north London derby.
“Wenger’s tactics were spot on,” Campbell told Sportlobster.
“They let Spurs have the ball in areas of the pitch where they couldn’t be a threat and then came the sucker punch before the break. Bellerin’s ball in to Ramsey was superb, as was the Welshman’s flick and Spurs were left frustrated. The expected weaknesses of Arsenal’s defence weren’t in evidence as Gibbs, Paulista and particularly Ospina came in and played brilliantly.”
Arsenal are in third place in the Premier League and eight points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
Tottenham are three points ahead of their north London rivals in the Premier League table.
