Stan Collymore delivers scathing assessment of Tottenham this season
Stan Collymore delivers bold claim about Tottenham's season to date in the Premier League
Stan Collymore has claimed that Tottenham’s impressive season only serves to highlight a lack of competition in the Premier League this term.
The north London side have earned plenty of new admirers for their impressive performances in recent weeks to emerge as one of the main contenders for the Premier League title.
Spurs currently sit second in the table and just five points behind leaders Leicester City heading into the final few games of the season.
With Champions League football for next season at White Hart Lane seemingly in the bag, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have earned plenty of praise for their campaign to date.
However, former Liverpool man Collymore feels that Spurs’ rise has only been possible because of the lack of competition from other sides.
Writing in his column for Boyle Sports, Collymore said: “The common consensus among Spurs fans is that the team Pochettino was building this season would be a team to compete in maybe two or three years’ time; young, naïve in some aspects, talented yes, but taught a footballing lesson over two Dortmund games.
“The youthful Spurs revolution in reality proves one thing and one thing only: the Premier League, for all of the money, for all of the hype, for all of the sponsors, for all of the global support, is the worst in quality it has ever been.”
