Theo Walcott sends message to Arsenal stars ahead of Tottenham clash
Theo Walcott looks ahead to Arsenal's Premier League clash with Tottenham on Saturday
Theo Walcott has called on his Arsenal team-mates to put in the maximum effort as they prepare for Saturday’s crunch showdown with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The Gunners have found themselves under intense pressure in recent days following their run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions.
Arsene Wenger’s men were beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League before losing to Manchester United and Swansea City in the top flight this week.
The north London side have inevitably come in for plenty of criticism following their string of below-par performances and results.
However, Walcott is confident that he and his team-mates can prove their doubters wrong with a hard-working display against Mauricio Pochettino’s title challengers at White Hart Lane.
“I think work-rate [will be key],” Walcott told Arsenal Player. “Everyone defending for each other and working for each other. You need to help your team-mates out.
“If someone’s head is down you need to lift them up very quickly, there is no time to be dwelling on a mistake or something that has happened in the game. You just need to get on with it. I think it will come down to that and who wants it more.
“We always focus in every game but this particular game, no matter how your season is going… if you don’t get a result, it can hurt you completely for weeks and months. It can ruin people’s careers. It is that mad, that is how important it is.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04.
Spurs are currently three points above their local rivals in the table.
