Thierry Henry: Liverpool star could become next Luis Suarez
Thierry Henry says Roberto Firmino is starting to show signs he can be the main man for Liverpool
Thierry Henry believes Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has the potential to emulate Luis Suarez at Anfield.
The Brazil international scored Liverpool’s equaliser at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon after the 24-year-old showed composure to beat Alex McCarthy after the Crystal Palace goalkeeper’s mistake.
He is starting to show some signs that he can be that guy
Jurgen Klopp’s side secured three points despite James Milner’s sending off thanks to Christian Benteke’s added-time penalty which was awarded after the striker was controversially brought down by Damien Delaney.
Firmino has scored seven goals and has made four assists in the Premier League in 2016 so far, which is more than any other player, including Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory at Palace, Arsenal legend Henry addressed the question of whether Firmino is good enough to lead the Reds to the Premier League title.
“I will give him the benefit of the doubt because he has just arrived and he needs to settle,” Henry said.
“Things changed during the season and it isn’t always easy. He is starting to show some signs that he can be that guy.
“Is he Luis Suarez? At the moment, he isn’t Suarez. But he might be [in the future].
“Is he the guy who is going to make Liverpool win a title? I don’t know.
“He is doing extremely well. If he can build a partnership with Philippe Coutinho, who knows?”
Firmino moved to Liverpool in a £29m deal from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the summer transfer window.
