Thierry Henry sends blunt message to Arsenal fans ahead of Everton trip
Thierry Henry tells Arsenal's fans to get behind Arsene Wenger and the team in the closing weeks of the season
Thierry Henry has told Arsenal fans to get behind the team as they prepare to travel to Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
Arsene Wenger has come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks following his side’s stuttering form in all competitions.
The Gunners were dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona on Wednesday night and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Watford last weekend.
Wenger has had to deal with unrest from Arsenal fans, with some supporters unfurling a banner calling for the Frenchman to end his spell in charge at the club.
But former Arsenal striker Henry wants to see the Gunners fans rally behind the team as they bid to claw their way back into the Premier League title race.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning, Wenger said: “I don’t think that [the banner] was nice. That’s something that you don’t want to see.
“I remember a couple of years ago on the way back from Stoke City some fans were having a go at Arsene – I don’t think it’s right.
“It doesn’t help when you play and you hear the fans having a go at whatever you do or whatever decision is being made on the bench.
“You need to have that togetherness at the crucial time. Obviously it doesn’t help, because you want to try and have that positive attitude in order to do something.”
