Paul Merson states prediction for Tottenham v Arsenal
Paul Merson is tipping a tight north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson says Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive performances are putting Arsenal under a lot of pressure ahead of Saturday’s north London derby.
Tottenham suffered their first defeat in seven Premier League outings on Wednesday night after a 1-0 loss to West Ham United at Upton Park.
I think it is great watching the way Spurs play at the moment
Arsene Wenger’s players failed to capitalise on Tottenham’s slip up as the Gunners succumbed to a surprise 2-1 loss to Premier League strugglers Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium.
Tottenham are three points behind leaders Leicester City but three points ahead of derby rivals Arsenal ahead of their meeting this weekend.
Former Gunners playmaker Merson feels Wenger’s squad are under more pressure given Tottenham’s impressive Premier League run before Wednesday’s setback.
“I do think that both teams will be too scared to lose and it will be a big win if either side wins,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“At the moment Arsenal are chasing two teams down and you want to be chasing one, you do not want to be chasing two.”
Merson added: “I think it is great watching the way Spurs play at the moment and I think it is great for Arsenal as well, as it puts a lot of pressure on them, the board and everyone else as Tottenham are up there.
“If they were not up there, then it would be like it does not matter, it is Arsenal again, but this time the pressure is on and fair play to them.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.
Pochettino is looking to become the first Tottenham manager to guide the Lilywhites to title glory.
Arsenal and Tottenham played out a 1-1 draw in their Premier League meeting at The Emirates earlier this season.
