Christian Benteke’s penalty at Selhurst Park split Twitter on Sunday as Liverpool were 2-1 winners at Crystal Palace.

Liverpool appeared to be heading for a fourth defeat in five games in all competitions against Palace after Joe Ledley broke the deadlock in the second half and James Milner was sent off.

However, Brazil international Roberto Firmino capitalised on Alex McCarthy’s slip to level for the visitors with 18 minutes remaining at Selhurst Park.

Jurgen Klopp introduced Benteke from the bench in the second half and the striker won an added time penalty after Damien Delaney appeared to catch the Belgium international in the penalty area.

The Palace defender made minimal contact with the £32.5m signing but the former Aston Villa striker calmly dispatched his effort from the penalty spot.

Unsurprisingly, the penalty divided opinions amongst the ex-professionals on Twitter.
