Robbie Savage states bold prediction for Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool
Robbie Savage is backing Liverpool to get an away goal at Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night
Robbie Savage believes Liverpool can score a vital away goal at Westfalenstadion despite Borussia Dortmund’s superior firepower in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Jurgen Klopp will make an emotional return to Dortmund for the first leg of the quarter-final clash just nine months after the 48-year-old stood down as the club’s manager.
Dortmund are chasing Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race, while Timothy Tuchel’s side were impressive 5-1 aggregate winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the round of 16.
Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored 36 goals in 41 games this term, including seven goals in eight Europa League games.
Former Leicester and Birmingham midfielder Savage is tipping Dortmund to win on Thursday night thanks to their superior attacking options but reckons Liverpool could nick a vital away goal.
“The front three of BVB are so instrumental: Reus, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan,” Savage told William Hill.
“They’ve got Hummels and Subotic at the back. They are going to be very difficult to break down and they’ve got so much firepower.
“Aubameyang has 36 goals in 41 games in all competitions. He is so quick. He will cause Liveprool’s defence all sort of problems.
“I’m going to for a 2-1 win for Dortmund – that away goal could be crucial for Liverpool.”
Dortmund have won all four of their Europa League fixtures since the start of the knockout phase, conceding just once in the process.
The Bundesliga side have won six of their seven European home matches this season, the lone defeat a 1-0 reverse at home to PAOK in their closing group stage game.
Dortmund have won seven of their ten fixtures since the start of the group stage; one more than any other team in this season’s competition.
