Gareth Bale says he would love to face former employers Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League next season.

The Wales international completed an £85.7m move to Real Madrid from the Premier League side in 2013 after Bale scored 21 times in 33 top-flight games for the Lilywhites in the 2013/14 season.

The 26-year-old has won the Champions League and the Copa del Rey since his world-record move and Zinedine Zidane’s side are in the running to win the La Liga crown this term.

The Welsh forward will be hoping to win the Europe’s premier competition for a second time in what should make for some intriguing betting on the Champions League ahead of the showpiece in Milan on 28 May.

Bale’s former club Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and on the brink of securing their spot in next season’s Champions League competition.

The Welsh winger discussed the possibility of facing Tottenham in Europe’s premier club competition next term ahead of Madrid’s Champions League semi-final clash against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

“Obviously when I left I always wished they would do well and continue on progressing which they have done, and yes it would be exciting to play them in the Champions League and return to White Hart Lane,” Bale told BT Sport.

“I hope they still love me there. So yeah it would be amazing to go there for a game but hopefully we would win there, but it’s great for them to see what they’re doing and hopefully they can see the run in and get the title.”
