Garth Crooks reveals Tottenham’s star of the show after 3-0 victory over Man United
Garth Crooks heaps praise on Tottenham's quiet but commanding centre-half Toby Alderweireld
Garth Crooks says Toby Alderweireld has “held the fort” superbly for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race.
The Belgium international got on the score sheet on Sunday afternoon as Tottenham eased to a 4-1 victory over Manchester United to keep their slim Premier League title hopes alive.
Alderweireld has also played a key role at the back for the north London side this season following his £12.5m move from Atletico Madrid in last summer’s transfer window.
Tottenham have the best defence in the Premier League this season after conceding just 25 goals in 32 Premier League games.
Former Spurs forward Crooks has heaped praise on Alderweireld following Sunday’s 4-1 victory over United at White Hart Lane.
“For me, the star of the show, and he has been for a some few weeks now, was Alderweireld,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“The Belgium international has held the fort brilliantly for Spurs, particularly in the absence of Jan Vertonghen.
“His quiet demeanour often belies his commanding presence in defence but it was his aerial prowess in attack that cut United to ribbons. Spurs are still in the title race but it is Leicester’s to lose.”
Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and seven points behind leaders Leicester City.
Spurs make the trip to Stoke City in their next Premier League game at Britannia Stadium.
