Harry Redknapp admits surprise at Man United performance

Harry Redknapp was surprised to see West Ham United lose to Manchester United on Wednesday night

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he was surprised to see Manchester United progress through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with victory over West Ham United on Thursday night.

The Red Devils headed into the game looking to bounce back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 3-0 loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane last weekend.

However, goals from Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellani put the Red Devils 2-0 up in east London, before James Tomkins scored what ended up being merely a consolation for the home side.

The result sets up a semi-final clash against Everton at Wembley for the Red Devils.

However, former West Ham boss Redknapp did not expect to see United go through to the last four.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, Redknapp said: “I thought West Ham would win last night.

“They came back great against Arsenal, and I thought they would beat Manchester United last night.

“But fair play to United, they controlled the game, and it was only when they went 2-0 down that West Ham got up a head of steam and started putting them under pressure.

“Overall, I think you have to be honest, and Man United deserved the win last night.”
