Jamie Carragher: This was Man United’s best player against Tottenham
Jamie Carragher singled out Timothy Fosu-Mensah for special praise after Manchester United's 3-0 loss to Tottenham
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Timothy Fosu-Mensah was Manchester United’s best player during their 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and says that the Red Devils “fell apart” after he was brought off.
The 18-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Red Devils first team so far this season and he started Sunday’s clash at White Hart Lane.
However, he was substituted in the 68th minute with the score at 0-0 in north London, and Spurs proceeded to net three quick-fire goals to hand them a convincing win and keep their Premier League title bid on track.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher was very impressed by the teenager’s display at White Hart Lane and felt that his substitution swung the game in Tottenham’s favour.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Carragher said: “I thought he was probably United’s best player on the day and as soon as he went off they just seemed to fall apart.
“Two of Spurs’ goals came from that side. Matteo Darmian came on and he wasn’t alert to what was going on.
“I think it’s no coincidence that as soon as he went off, the game finished as it did.”
Next up for Manchester United is their FA Cup quarter-final replay clash against West Ham United at Upton Park on Wednesday.
