Jamie Redknapp delivers blunt assessment of Man United signings after Tottenham loss

Jamie Redknapp criticised Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin after Manchester United’s comprehensive 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils were outplayed by Spurs at White Hart Lane and despite going into half-time with the score at 0-0, three quick-fire second-half goals earned Tottenham victory in north London.

Louis van Gaal’s men failed to click into gear against the Lilywhites as they slumped to defeat which could prove damaging to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

And Redknapp was particularly unimpressed by the performances of Depay and Schneiderlin – who both joined the club last summer – at White Hart Lane.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Manchester United looked so far off being a competitive side at White Hart Lane — Spurs were better in every department. The trouble is it’s difficult to know what their biggest problem is.

“Are the players being suffocated by their manager or are they just not good enough? Too many of them look afraid to play.

“Memphis Depay cost £25m so he must have something, he can’t be this bad. And Morgan Schneiderlin looks a shadow of the player I saw at Southampton.

“It can’t help if every time you make a mistake you look over and see your manager writing it down. That must create some paranoia.

“Whether Louis van Gaal stays or goes, this will have set alarms bells off because they were not good enough.”

United will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to east London to take on West Ham United at Upton Park in their FA Cup quarter-final replay clash on Wednesday night.
