The former France international was a figure of reference for Terry during the early stages of his blossoming Chelsea career in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Desailly enjoyed six successful seasons at Stamford Bridge before the World Cup winner moved to the Middle East to wind down a memorable career.
Terry went on to take over Desailly’s mantle as Chelsea’s undisputed leader at the back, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League as well as countless domestic cup competitions.
And perhaps the 35-year-old will be in contact with Desailly over Instagram for advice on what step he should take next in his career if the Chelsea captain does leave Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract.
Terry wrote on his Instagram page: “Welcome to Instagram @marceldesaillyofficial
Coming through the ranks at @chelseafc I learnt from the very best in Marcel, he had so much time for the younger players and me personally. To watch and learn from him day in day out was the best education for a young player. Thank you Marcel. Absolute LEGEND and one of the nicest guys you could meet in football.
My HERO 👌⚽️ Merci pour tout 🇫🇷”
Chelsea will host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
