Aaron Ramsey explains where it went wrong for Arsenal in the Premier League this season
Aaron Ramsey has explained where it went wrong for Arsenal over the course of the Premier League campaign.
The Gunners are 13 points behind newly-crowned champions Leicester City after a disappointing season despite initially being rated as favourites to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Arsenal made premature exits in the Champions League and the FA Cup after defeats by Barcelona and Watford to end the season without any silverware for the first time in three years.
Wales international Ramsey believes Arsenal’s poor record against some of the lesser Premier League sides ultimately cost them the Premier League title.
“A couple of occasions we slipped up against the so-called lower teams,” Ramsey told ESPN.
“We missed opportunities there, which you can’t afford to do when somebody, like Leicester did this season, they set the pace and kept up their winning run.
“You just can’t afford to drop points in the manner that we did at times.”
Arsenal lost 4-0 to Southampton on Boxing Day despite being top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners lost back-to-back games against Manchester United and Swansea City in February and March to effectively end their Premier League title bid.
Arsene Wenger hasn’t guided Arsenal to the top-flight crown since 2004.
