Alex Iwobi has been rewarded for his impressive season with Arsenal by being handed the number 17 shirt, previously occupied by Alexis Sanchez.

The young midfielder earned plenty of new admirers after breaking into the north London club’s first team last season.

Iwobi became a regular fixture in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up at The Emirates as he scored two goals and made two assists in a total of 17 games in all competitions for Arsenal.

Sanchez has since been handed the number seven shirt at Arsenal, and the north London club confirmed on Friday that Iwobi – who previously wore number 45 – will be wearing the number 17 shirt from next season.
