Andy Murray breezes into Madrid Masters 2016 semi-finals

Andy Murray is through to the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters after a straightforward win over Tomas Berdych

Andy Murray hailed his improved serving after the British No1 continued his defence of his Madrid Masters title by thrashing Tomas Berdych on Friday.

The Scot triumphed 6-3 6-2 over his Czech opponent to set up a potential semi-final showdown with Rafael Nadal.

And Murray felt that his improved serve – which he has been working hard on – helped him through the match.

He said: “It is easy to say hit the second serve harder, but sometimes you need to make technical adjustments and have coaching on that.

“I had to make some changes to my serve, and I did a lot of research on it myself.

“I feel much more comfortable going bigger on the second serve, as there is a lot more spin on it.

“I can control the serve better, which frees me up to go more on my first serve as well.”
