Argentina star ‘seriously considering’ £37.8m Chelsea transfer, claims insider
Guillem Balague claims Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is weighing up a move to Chelsea this summer
Gonzalo Higuain is seriously considering a £37.8m move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague.
Italy head coach Antonio Conte is set to take over the dethroned Premier League champions at the end of the season following the Azzurri’s Euro 2016 campaign.
Chelsea’s current first-choice striker Diego Costa has endured a difficult second season at Stamford Bridge after managing to net just 12 times in the Premier League.
In contrast, Napoli forward Higuain has scored an incredible 33 goals in 34 Serie A games for the Italian side this season, producing his best campaign in Naples since his big-money move in 2013.
However, La Liga expert Balague claimed that Higuain is weighing up a £37.8m switch to Chelsea as Conte looks to strengthen his attacking options.
“Gonzalo Higuain is a target for Chelsea. I think he would cost around €48m (about £37.8m),” Balague told Sky Sports.
“Higuain is seriously considering it and if he does move to Stamford Bridge then there would be the possibility that Costa would have to be sold.
“It’s very difficult for Atletico Madrid, and Diego Simeone in particular. Simeone has told Atletico Madrid he only wants three players. Diego, Costa and Diego Costa.
“He’s determined to get him but it’s not easy to get him as he will have to reduce his wages big time and I’m not sure Atletico will be able to put a huge offer on the table for him.
“It’s one to keep an eye in the future because they certainly want him.”
Higuain came close to joining Arsenal in 2013 before he eventually moved to Napoli from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Chelsea will face Premier League champion Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
