Monchengladbach provide Arsenal transfer update on £30m midfielder

Arsenal have not made an offer for Granit Xhaka, claim Borussia Monchengladbach

Arsenal have suffered a transfer blow after Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl claimed that the Gunners are still to make an offer for Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners over the past number of months amid interest from their Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Xhaka’s representatives were reported to have met Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and his Gunners colleagues in a London hotel earlier this season.

The Gunners were thought to be on the brink of landing the highly-rated Switzerland midfielder earlier this week.

However, Monchengladbach chief Eberl has maintained that there has been no offer from the north London side for their prized asset ahead of the summer transfer window.

“There is no official offer,” Eberl told German magazine Kicker.

“But Granit Xhaka is an issue. It’s clear he has generated interest at other clubs.

“We have to wait and see what happens.”

The Switzerland international has scored three times in 27 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, while he has made one assist in five Champions League games.
