Arsenal ready to sign Inter Milan star in £27.6m deal – report

Arsenal will turn to Mauro Icardi if their Alvaro Morata bid fails, according to ESPN

Arsenal will turn their attentions to Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi if Alvaro Morata returns to Real Madrid this summer, according to ESPN.

The Gunners are thought to be weighing up a move for the Juventus forward after Danny Welbeck was sidelined for nine months following an operation on his right knee.

Morata moved to the Serie A champions from Los Blancos in 2015 but Madrid retain an option to buy back their youth produce after a return of seven goals in 33 top-flight games.

According to ESPN, Arsenal will look to test Inter Milan’s Icardi resolve if the Gunners are thwarted in their attempts to sign Morata.

The Argentina international has scored 16 times in 33 Serie A appearances for Roberto Mancini’s Inter side.

However, Arsenal will face competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham for the 23-year-old’s signature in the summer transfer window.
