Arsenal set to target £30m Bayern Munich defender – report

Arsenal are plotting a move for Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia, according to reports in France

Arsenal are planning a move for Bayern Munich centre-half Mehdi Benatia in the summer transfer window, according to reports in France.

The Morocco international is facing an uncertain future at the Bundesliga champions after Bayern confirmed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels earlier this month.

Benatia struggled to secure regular first-team football under Pep Guardiola last season after having started just 11 games in their title-winning campaign.

The 29-year-old moved to the Allianz Arena from Roma in a £29m deal in 2014 ahead of a switch to the Premier League amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

According to RMC, Arsenal are ready to test Bayern’s resolve over their Moroccan defender with a bid in the summer transfer window.

Benatia, who has made 31 appearances for the Morocco national team, has won back-to-back Bundesliga titles since his switch to Bayern in 2014.
