Arsenal suffer blow after £74m striker commits to Serie A club

Gonzalo Higuain appears to commit his future to Napoli despite Arsenal speculation

Gonzalo Higuain says he feels Napoli want him more than any other club despite relentless speculation linking the Argentina striker with a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners are thought to have made the 27-year-old one of their top targets after Higuain scored a record 36 goals in 35 Serie A games for the Naples side this season.

The South American ended his campaign with a hat-trick in Napoli’s 4-0 victory over Frosinone in their last Serie A game of the 2015/16 season.

Arsenal were thought to be lining up a huge offer for the former Real Madrid striker amid reports Higuain was attempting to lower his £74m contract release clause.

However, the Napoli star has appeared to commit his future to the Naples club after he spoke of the fans’s affection for their record-breaking striker.

“This season I felt love at Napoli. I felt that they wanted me more than in any other club,” Higuain told Marca.
