Arsenal suffer transfer blow as £20m midfielder commits to Premier League rivals
Leicester midfielder N'Golo Kante wants to play in the Champions League with the Foxes next season
Arsenal have suffered a transfer blow as N’Golo Kante prepares to commit his future to Leicester City.
The Foxes defensive midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners as Arsene Wenger attempts to bolster his options in midfield following a disappointing season.
The former Caen man was voted the Leicester player of the year by his team-mates on Tuesday night after a hugely impressive campaign for the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
The Gunners were thought to be ready to activate a reported £20m contract release clause amid rumoured interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs.
But it appears that Kante is ready to reject a move away from King Power Stadium and stay at Leicester ahead of their inaugural Champions League campaign.
“The Champions League next season will be new for me but I hear good things,” Kante told Sky Sports.
“We don’t know if they we can surprise in Europe, we have just joined at this moment, we will see. We have just done it for this season.
“When I came here I can’t imagine this, winning the title. Now we did it. It has been a good moment, we have to enjoy it.”
Kane scored one goal in 38 Premier League appearances following his £5.6m move from French side Caen in last summer’s transfer window.
