Arsene Wenger makes bold claim about Liverpool striker amid Arsenal link
Arsene Wenger picks out Daniel Sturridge as a potential star at Euro 2016
Arsene Wenger is tipping England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge to be one of the stars of Euro 2016 this summer.
The 26-year-old has endured another injury-hit season which has limited the Three Lions star to just 14 Premier League games.
However, Sturridge has managed to stay injury-free since his return against West Ham United in their FA Cup replay at Upton Park in February.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has scored eight times in the Premier League this term despite his injury-hit start to the campaign.
Asked about the European championships this summer, Arsenal manager Wenger earmarked Sturridge as one player who could light up the tournament in France.
“In tournaments, we have many surprises,” Wenger told his press conference on Friday.
“In Portugal, the player of the tournament was Zagorakis so that shows it can by anybody.
“I think Pogba or Griezmann…or Sturridge – who has not had a long season – could do well.”
Sturridge moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from Chelsea in January 2013 under Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
Last week, the Daily Mirror reported that Sturridge could be a £30m target for the north London side as Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options.
