Charlie Nicholas: This is what Jose Mourinho would do as Man United manager
Charlie Nicholas makes prediction about Jose Mourinho at Man United
Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester United’s exciting young prospects would be frozen out under Jose Mourinho.
The 53-year-old is the favourite to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign for the 20-time English champions.
The Red Devils are in fifth place in the Premier League table and two points behind Manchester City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
While Van Gaal has been criticised for United’s poor domestic form, the former Ajax and Barcelona manager has been praised for bringing through the likes of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.
Former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas believes United’s youth products would suffer under Mourinho, adding that the former Chelsea manager would spend £250m on new signings.
“Jose Mourinho would come in, get rid of the kids and spend another quarter of a billion, whereas we’re now thinking they might not have to buy as much if they continue to develop the young players,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
United host Bournemouth in their final Premier League game of the season before facing Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
