Charlie Nicholas: Tottenham must sign this £10m striker
Charlie Nicholas tells Tottenham Hotspur to sign Saido Berahino
Charlie Nicholas has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino in the summer transfer window.
The England Under-21 international has been a long-term target for the north London club but a move failed to materialise last year.
Berahino has endured a mixed season for the Baggies after initially being out-of-favour under Tony Pulis following the speculation surrounding his future.
The 22-year-old has scored just four times in 31 Premier League appearances for West Brom, although 14 of those have come from the bench.
Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Tottenham in the English top-flight this season, aided by Harry Kane’s return of 25 goals in 37 games.
However, former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas believes Berahino would be a good signing for Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.
“If Spurs are to kick on they are going to have to be able to adapt to play with two strikers when they’re chasing games, so they need another proper striker,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“They need somebody who can come in and play up alongside Harry Kane.
“They’ve obviously been linked with Saido Berahino and if they sort out his mind then he could be their man.
“They also need another defender. Kevin Wimmer did well when he came in but top sides need two players in each position, which they don’t have in that area.”
West Brom host Liverpool in their final game of the Premier League season at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies have failed to win a Premier League game in their last six attempts.
