Chelsea, Liverpool suffer blow after being told £30m Roma star wants to stay
Roma manager Luciano Spalletti says Miralem Pjanic wants to stay in Rome despite Chelsea, Liverpool interest
Chelsea and Liverpool have received a transfer blow after Luciano Spalletti confirmed Miralem Pjanic wants to stay at Roma.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder has been linked with a £30m transfer to the Premier League regularly over the past 12 months.
Chelsea and Liverpool were thought to be leading English interest in the highly-rated Roma playmaker ahead of the summer.
But Roma manager Spalletti claimed that Pjanic wants to stay in the Italian capital despite Premier League history.
“We’ll evaluate things. He said to me that he wants to stay, so if he’s happy, I’m happy,” Spalletti is quoted as saying by Football Italia.
Pjanic has scored 10 times and has made 12 assists in 33 Serie A appearances this season for the Rome outfit.
The 26-year-old has also racked up 10 bookings and one red card over the course of the Italian top-flight campaign.
Liverpool are also being linked with a bid for Poland and Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski ahead of the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds side will face reigning champions Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
