Chelsea, Man United clear to sign £65m striker after agent confirms summer transfer
Romelu Lukaku's agent confirms the striker will leave Everton amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United
Chelsea and Manchester United have been given the all clear to sign Romelu Lukaku after the Everton striker’s agent confirmed that £65m transfer is imminent ahead of Euro 2016.
Lukaku, who hasn’t scored a Premier League goal since March, has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park after Everton’s disappointing top-flight campaign.
Roberto Martinez was sacked by the Toffees earlier this month after the Merseyside outfit slumped to a humiliating 3-0 defeat by relegation-threatened Sunderland.
The Belgium international score 25 goals in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit this season, prompting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Juventus.
And Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola has confirmed that the 23-year-old should complete a summer transfer ahead of the European championship in France.
“Everton are asking around £65m for Rom. I think a transfer will be done before the Euros,” Raiola is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“Romelu will decide his future, but agents have the last word most of the time. I hope and I think Mino Raiola is an honest man.
“Now, with Romelu it will be quickly arranged. Whether the transfer has been sorted? Almost. I think it will be in place before the European Championship.
“He won’t go to Italy, because they keep it closed at the back, too difficult for an attacker.
“What is certain, to continue to make progress, he needs to change clubs, but we are mainly engaged in making the right choice.”
Lukaku moved to Everton in a £27m deal from Chelsea after being deemed surplus to requirements by then-manager Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.
