Chelsea, Man United to do battle over £45m Portugal winger – report

Man United will do battle with Chelsea for the signature of Joao Maria, according to A Bola

Chelsea and Manchester United are set to battle it out for Sporting Lisbon winger Joao Maria, according to reports in Portugal.

The Red Devils missed out on a top-four finish this season after Manchester City secured the final Champions League qualifying spot thanks to a 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.

However, United made amends by winning the FA Cup on Saturday evening thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley.

The 20-time English champions were beaten to exciting Benfica prospect Renato Sanches last week after the Portuguese teenager joined Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils are rumoured to be on the verge of appointing Jose Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s replacement.

According to A Bola, United are facing competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea to sign £45m-rated Sporting winger Joao Maria.

The Chelsea and United target only signed a new contract which will keep at the Portuguese club until 2020 earlier this year.
