Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to win their first FA Cup crown since 2004 when they face Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils will look to make up for the disappointment of missing out on a top-four finish by winning their first piece of silverware since 2013.

However, Alan Pardew’s side have been focussing on the FA Cup for much of the season to the detriment of their Premier League campaign.

United were 2-0 winners in their top-flight meeting at Old Trafford earlier this year, while the sides played out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park.

Former Arsenal playmaker Merson is tipping the Red Devils to end their 12-year wait to win England’s premier cup competition.

Asked whether he thought United could win against Palace, Merson told Fantasy FC podcast: “I think they’ll win the FA Cup.”

United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table behind Manchester City despite winning their final top-flight game 3-1 against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
