Danny Higginbotham reacts to reports Jose Mourinho will be new Man United manager

Danny Higginbotham has his say on speculation Jose Mourinho is on the brink of becoming Man United manager

Danny Higginbotham has rubbished the suggestion that Manchester United will play defensive football under Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils are reportedly on the brink of sacking Louis van Gaal this Monday ahead of a move to appoint Mourinho as their third manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

The 20-time English champions won their first trophy in three seasons on Saturday evening after Jesse Lingard scored an extra-time winner to seal a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

However, Van Gaal is expected to receive his marching orders after United finished in fifth place and behind Manchester City on goal difference, meaning a second season in three years without Champions League football.

Mourinho’s critics have suggested that the Portuguese coach will bring a defensive philosophy to Old Trafford if the 53-year-old is named as Van Gaal’s successor.

However, former United defender Higginbotham rubbished those claims on Twitter.
