Dietmar Hamann makes bold prediction about Jose Mourinho and Man United

Dietmar Hamann is confident Manchester United will be a permanent fixture in the top four under Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho will transform Manchester United into a permanent top-four fixture again, according to Dietmar Hamann.

The 53-year-old is being widely-tipped to take over the reins at Old Trafford from Louis van Gaal in the coming days after the Dutchman was sacked on Monday night.

United ended their season on a positive note after winning the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

However, Van Gaal couldn’t guide United to a top-four finish in successive seasons, which has put the 64-year-old under intense pressure in recent days.

Former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder Hamann believes Mourinho will be able to restore United to their former glory at Old Trafford if he is appointed.

“I felt they needed a change,” Hamann told Sky Sports.

“They were 10 or 11 games where they didn’t score a goal in the first half at Old Trafford.

“For a club like Manchester United with an attacking-minded philosophy, it simply wasn’t good enough. A lot of fans have been disillusioned over the last few years.

Hamann added: “If they don’t want to lose touch with the top sides and the top four, I feel he is the right man.”

Van Gaal has spent almost £250m on new players since the Dutchman took over the reins at Old Trafford from David Moyes in May 2014.
