Martin Keown states his FA Cup final prediction for Man United v Crystal Palace

Martin Keown looks ahead to the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace and states his prediction

Martin Keown is backing Manchester United to end a difficult season on a high by beating Crystal Palace to win the FA Cup in Saturday’s final.

The Red Devils are preparing to take on the Eagles at Wembley as they bid to bounce back from the disappointment of having to settle for a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League and missing out on Champions League qualification.

United are the favourites heading into the game as they look to win their first trophy since Louis van Gaal’s appointment as manager back in 2014.

And although former Arsenal defender Keown is backing Palace to put up a good fight against the Red Devils, he is fully expecting to see United lift the cup on Saturday evening.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Keown said: “Manchester United are certainly favourites, but there is a way Palace can win this game – and that involves Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha really turning up.

“When Palace lost at Old Trafford the league last month, Bolasie didn’t play and United’s full backs looked relatively comfortable. We saw what he and Zaha can do during their semi-final win against Watford, and Alan Pardew’s side will be a different prospect on Saturday.

“Against Watford, Bolasie moved centrally and I think he looked even better there. Centre halves are usually slower than full backs, so someone as quick as Bolasie could do some real damage running at Chris Smalling and Daley Blind in the final.

“With Bolasie and Zaha – and to a certain extent, Connor Wickham – Pardew has all the tools at his disposal to bring about an upset. It should be an exciting game!”
