Fernando Morientes: Why I want Real Madrid to sign this Man United star
Fernando Morientes runs the rule over Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea
Fernando Morientes has admitted that he would love Real Madrid to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea in the summer transfer window.
The Spain international won United’s player of the season award for a record third successive season after another eye-catching campaign for the 25-year-old at Old Trafford.
The shot stopper was on the brink of a move to Los Blancos last summer before his proposed £25m transfer fell through on La Liga’s deadline day much to the relief of United supporters.
De Gea has kept 15 clean sheets in 32 Premier League appearances for the 20-time English champions this season, which is the best of any goalkeeper in the top flight.
Former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Morientes explained why he is a massive fan of the United goalkeeper, backing De Gea to dethrone Iker Casillas as Spain’s number one.
Asked if he is the best goalkeeper in the world, Morientes replied: “For me, yes. Not just because he is Spanish. He is one of the best.
“He did a very good job at Atletico. Iker Casillas is one of the most nb goalkeepers in our history. But he can pass him. He is young, agile and he has a good mentality. He does something special in matches.”
