The Red Devils appointed the 53-year-old as their new manager on Friday morning after months of speculation linking the 20-time English champions with Louis van Gaal’s job.
Jose gives them the X Factor – he did that at Chelsea
The Dutchman was sacked just days after leading United to the FA Cup crown thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley.
However, the Red Devils finished in fifth place and outside the Champions League qualifying positions for the second time in three seasons.
Lampard played under Mourinho during the Chelsea coach’s two spells in charge at Stamford Bridge, winning three Premier League crowns.
And the ex-England midfielder is confident the Portuguese coach will galvanise the Red Devils.
“Jose will have a massive effect at United,” Lampard told The Sun.
“He knows how to get a team winning by putting his own imprint on them. His personality reflects his teams and, looking from afar, Manchester United have needed that.
“They had a lot of quality in their squad but not much oomph. He has a base there but will bring in players and he will galvanise players. Jose gives them the X Factor – he did that at Chelsea. I know it didn’t end perfectly there but I can see him succeeding at United.”
United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 as Sir Alex Ferguson ended his 25-year reign on a high.
The Red Devils have appointed three managers since the legendary Scot called time on his career.
