Graeme Souness: This is what Arsenal are lacking

The former Liverpool midfielder says the Gunners lack mental toughness

Graeme Souness says Arsenal are still lacking mental toughness after a fruitless seasons for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger’s side were touted as one of the favourites to win the Premier League title alongside Manchester City during the first half of the season.

However, the north London side lost to Southampton, Manchester United, Swansea City and Chelsea in the second half of the Premier League campaign.

Arsenal have one of the most-talented squads in the Premier League after Wenger signed the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech in the past three seasons.

But former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Souness believes Arsenal’s biggest problem is their lack of mental toughness during difficult moments in a title challenge.

“It is mental toughness with Arsenal. Arsenal have quality but they can’t dig it out when it matters,” Souness told Sky Sports.

Arsenal lost their first FA Cup game in three seasons after a 2-1 defeat by Watford in the quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium.
