Guus Hiddink reveals key to maintaining Eden Hazard’s Chelsea form

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink lifts the lid on the secret behind Eden Hazard's revival

Guus Hiddink has revealed that Chelsea have come up with a special programme to maintain the fitness and form of Eden Hazard.

The Belgium international was back to his mercurial best on Wednesday night as the 25-year-old produced his best performance of the season in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

It’s a matter of being fit and fresh for him, and he’s showing that already in the last few weeks

Hazard, who was named the 2015 PFA player of the year, broke the deadlock with a superb solo goal in the first half after evading four Liverpool players and slotting a finish past compatriot Simon Mignolet.

Fellow Belgian Christian Benteke came off the bench to score a late equaliser in the final moments at Anfield to rescue a point for the Europa League finalists in their final home game of the season.

However, Chelsea manager Hiddink was pleased to see his star player continue his excellent recent form after a return of four goals in his last four Premier League games.

“He was terrific. He’s already some weeks growing also in his physically fitness, which is important for him and nature gives him a lot of skill,” Hiddink told Sky Sports.

“It’s a matter of being fit and fresh for him, and he’s showing that already in the last few weeks.

“Last year he had a beautiful year, and this year he had to suffer a lot regarding his injury, being back and then getting injured again, and that’s why we made a special programme for him.”

Hazard ended an 11-month goal drought in the Premier League with a brace in the west London side’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth earlier this month.
