Jamie Carragher delivers honest assessment of Arsenal’s season

Jamie Carragher discusses Arsenal's season after the Gunners ended up second in the Premier League table

Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal have gone backwards this season despite Arsene Wenger’s men finishing second in the Premier League table.

The Gunners ended up 10 points behind champions Leicester City as they pipped their bitter local rivals Tottenham to second place.

It marks Arsenal’s first top-two finish since the 2004-05 season but that fact will be little consolation for Gunners fans after watching their team end the campaign without a trophy.

The north London side had won the FA Cup for the last two seasons running and had been tipped to challenge for the Premier League title this term.

However, their patchy form after the turn of the year meant they slipped well off the pace and watched Leicester be crowned champions.

And although Arsenal ended the season in second place, former Liverpool defender Carragher feels that the Gunners will be disappointed with the campaign overall.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Carragher said: “Even though they finished second this season, they are further away now even though they’ve gone up a place.

“For two years on the bounce they won the FA Cup. They had a fantastic run in the second half of the season. That feeling of winning a medal you thought they’d go again this season.
