Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea and Liverpool will have a big advantage in the Premier League top-four race next season.

The Blues finished in a lowly ninth place in the Premier League table to condemn the west London side to no European football at Stamford Bridge next season for the first time in Roman Abramovich’s reigh as Chelsea owner.

Liverpool, meanwhile, missed out on the chance to qualify for the Champions League by virtue of winning the Europa League after a 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the final in Basel earlier this month.

Former Reds defender Carragher reckons Chelsea and Liverpool will have a huge advantage in the race to secure a top-four finish next term and seal a return to Europe’s top table.

“A big thing for Chelsea and Liverpool, an advantage for them, is no European football,” Carragher told talkSPORT.

“It might be a bit much for Liverpool going for the title, but they will certainly be looking at the top four.

“Chelsea always have their sights on the title and it depends on who comes in. But it will be a big advantage for Chelsea and Liverpool having no European football.”

Jurgen Klopp took over the reins at Anfield from Brendan Rodgers in October after Liverpool’s below-par start to the season.
