Jamie Carragher: This Man United star produced one of moments of the season
Jamie Carragher heaps praise on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea
Jamie Carragher has credited Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea with making the save of the season in the Premier League.
The Spain international has enjoyed another brilliant season for the 20-time English champions after he was initially omitted from United’s opening four games of the campaign.
The 24-year-old was named the United player of the year earlier this month following a season which has seen the shot stopper keep 14 clean sheets in 34 Premier League games.
But former Liverpool defender Carragher has singled out De Gea’s spectacular save in a 3-2 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League in September as the best save in the 2015/16 campaign.
“There are many reasons David De Gea won Manchester United’s Player of the Year award but none is more compelling than his stop to keep out a Jose Fonte header at Southampton last September,” Carragher told Daily Mail.
“Somehow he clawed a ball from behind him that looked to be in.”
The United shot stopper has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid regularly over the past 18 months but his proposed move fell through on the final day of the Spanish division’s transfer window last summer.
