Jamie Carragher: My thoughts on Man United appointing Jose Mourinho
Jamie Carragher discusses whether Jose Mourinho would be a good appointment for Manchester United
Jamie Carragher believes that Jose Mourinho is the right man to bring success to Manchester United following the reports of Louis van Gaal’s sacking.
The Red Devils are widely reported to have parted company with the Dutchman on Monday after months of uncertainty about his future at the club, although there is as yet no official word from the Old Trafford outfit.
Mourinho is hotly tipped to be appointed as United’s next manager, with the Portuguese coach having been heavily linked with the Old Trafford job since his sacking by Chelsea back in December.
And although Carragher feels that United are likely to have to scrap their policy of blooding young talent under Mourinho, the former Liverpool defender is backing the coach to be a success at Old Trafford should he be appointed.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday afternoon, Carragher said: “He [Mourinho] certainly has the name and the pedigree in terms of trophies and success – that’s what Manchester United want.
“Is he the perfect fit for what United would really want? Probably not in terms of blooding young players and the type of football.
“He has managed Real Madrid and won the league there. He managed great attacking players like Cristiano Ronald.
“He is a good fit and he will bring success because he has done that everywhere he has been.”
United won the FA Cup under Van Gaal on Saturday.
