Jamie Carragher predicts bright future for Man United

Jamie Carragher makes a prediction about Manchester United's future after their sacking of Louis van Gaal

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United’s sacking of Louis van Gaal proves that the club are determined to move on to “bigger things”.

The Red Devils parted company with the Dutchman on Monday after months of speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

United are widely expected to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager as they look to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Van Gaal’s future has been a constant source of scrutiny, with his side struggling to find consistent form in all competitions this season, despite their FA Cup triumph on Saturday.

The Red Devils finished fifth in the Premier League table and missed out on the change to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

And although Carragher admits that he does feel some sympathy for Van Gaal, he is expecting the club to move on swiftly from his departure.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Carragher said: “It’s nice for him to go out with a trophy like he has done with most clubs.

“But Manchester United now are looking at going for bigger things.

“They have to be in the top four and competing in the Champions League. It is just right.”
