Jamie Redknapp: Arsenal need to make these signings to be title contenders

Jamie Redknapp explains what signings Arsenal must make in the summer

Jamie Redknapp says Arsene Wenger needs to tackle three areas of his Arsenal squad to turn the Gunners into Premier League title contenders next season.

The north London side finished as Premier League runners-up but 12 points behind newly-crowned champions Leicester City after a disappointing second half of the season for Wenger’s squad.

The 2014 and 2015 FA Cup winners suffered defeats by Southampton, Manchester United and Swansea City in the second half of the season to effectively end their title challenge.

Arsenal were installed as favourites to win the Premier League title on Boxing Day before a shock 4-0 defeat by Ronald Koeman’s Saints side at St Mary’s.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp reckons Wenger needs to sign a centre-half, a midfielder and a world-class striker in the summer to transform Arsenal into Premier League title contenders next season.

“I think they need a centre-half, a central midfielder and a centre-forward. But we say that every year,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“If they can go and get a top-class striker, a midfielder player because they need someone who can do better than what they’ve got, and a centre-half to play alongside Koscielny, then we’ll be talking about Arsenal winning the title.

“If they don’t, it’ll be the same conversation next season.”
