Jamie Redknapp: Chelsea need these signings this summer
Jamie Redknapp discusses what areas Antonio Conte must address in his Chelsea squad
Jamie Redknapp says Chelsea need to sign a centre-half and a striker in the summer transfer window.
Italy head coach Antonio Conte is set to take over the reins after Euro 2016 following his appointment as the next permanent Chelsea manager earlier this year.
They need another centre-half. That seems to be a problem area as well
The incoming Blues boss has already been linked with a big-money move for Napoli’s record-breaker Gonzalo Higuain in the summer transfer window, while Juventus forward Alvaro Morata is thought to be another potential target.
Long-serving Chelsea captain John Terry put pen to paper on a new one-year contract on Wednesday afternoon, while the west London side have been linked with another attempt to sign Everton defender John Stones.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp believes the 2015 Premier League champions need to address areas of weakness in their defence and sign a striker to help ease Diego Costa’s workload.
“It will be interested to see who is and who is out. There is talk of Thibaut Courtois leaving. I’m not sure what they need,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“There is talk of Antonio Conte playing 4-4-2. They’d have to sign a striker to play alongside Costa. If they do that, they’d have the fundamentals. They need another centre-half. That seems to be a problem area as well.”
Chelsea finished in ninth place in the Premier League table and a staggering 31 points behind newly-crowned champions Leicester City.
