Jamie Redknapp issues warning to Jose Mourinho that his past behaviour won't be tolerated at Manchester United
Jamie Redknapp has warned Jose Mourinho that Manchester United won’t tolerate his erratic behaviour at Old Trafford.
The 53-year-old is the favourite to replace Louis van Gaal after the Dutchman was sacked as United manager on Monday night following a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich guided United to their first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement on Saturday evening after Jesse Lingard’s winner sealed a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace.
Mourinho hasn’t returned to football management since he was sacked by Chelsea in December following a disastrous defence of their Premier League crown amid reports that the Blues boss fell out with some members of his dressing room.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham captain Redknapp believes the United players will know what to expect from Mourinho, particularly the manager’s prickly side following his struggles in west London last season.
“The hard thing will be when things go wrong with Jose,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“That is always the worry you have for him. If it goes wrong, it is the players’s fault. If it goes well, he takes all the credit. You have to be very careful with players like that.
“They’ll have all learned from the Chelsea experience. All the players will be talking about what it was like working with him at Chelsea. He lost his way badly. He threw his toys out of the pram regularly.
“You can’t behave like that if you’re Manchester United manager.”
Mourinho won three Premier League titles during two reigns at Chelsea.
