Jamie Redknapp issues warning to this Man United star over Jose Mourinho appointment
Jamie Redknapp believes Marcus Rashford could struggle to thrive under Jose Mourinho at Man United
Jamie Redknapp says he worries about Marcus Rashford ahead of Jose Mourinho’s anticipated as Manchester United manager.
The United teenager has been one of the big plus points from an otherwise largely disappointing season for the 20-time English champions.
Rashford has scored five times in 11 Premier League games for the Red Devils since netting twice in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal on his debut.
Mourinho is the favourite to replace Louis van Gaal after the 64-year-old Dutchman was sacked by the Red Devils on Monday night.
However, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp believes Mourinho’s appointment could be bad news for Rashford and the younger members of the current Red Devils squad.
“My worry would be if you’re a young Manchester United player at the club how would you feel?” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“He always has had a reputation – and rightfully so – for never giving young players a chance. People like Marcus Rashford will be nervous if he brings in a big striker.
“I hope he sticks to the principles of what Manchester United are about. They have always given youth a chance.”
The United teenager scored eight times and made two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions for Van Gaal’s side this year.
Rashford, 18, has been including in Roy Hodgson’s preliminary 26-man Three Lions squad for this summer’s European championship in France.
