Jamie Redknapp makes bold claim about Jose Mourinho and Man United

Jamie Redknapp expresses his concerns over Manchester United target Jose Mourinho

Jamie Redknapp says Manchester United’s younger players will be worried by the prospect of Jose Mourinho taking over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

The 64-year-old hasn’t got too much right in his second season at United but the former Ajax and Barcelona manager has been credited with giving a youth to chance in the first-team following the emergence of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

However, David Moyes’s replacement Van Gaal could be out of a job at the start of next season should the current speculation linking Mourinho with the United manager’s job come to fruition in the summer.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp believes the Red Devils should think carefully before sacking Van Gaal and appointing Mourinho as their next permanent manager.

“What do you do? Do you give him another year? The highlight for me what he has done is bringing in young players like Marcus Rashford,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“If you bring in a new manager – Mourinho – if you’re a young player at that club, you’d be fearful of Jose. History says he doesn’t play young players.

“Or do you keep Van Gaal and think next year we can go onto the next level and win the league, or start treading water again.

“It is one of their biggest decisions in may years.”
