John Barnes is expecting to see Liverpool to continue to improve under Jurgen Klopp next season as the German coach prepares for his first full season in charge at Anfield.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager was brought in back in October following the Reds’ decision to sack Brendan Rodgers.

Klopp has already established himself as a fans’ favourite at Anfield and is hugely popular amongst the supporters on Merseyside.

Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Klopp is looking to recruit before next season.

And Liverpool legend Barnes feels that the Reds have plenty of reasons to be optimistic heading into next season.

Writing in his column for Titanbet, Barnes said: “The relationship between Klopp and the fans [is the biggest reason for optimism for Liverpool].

“Klopp was jetted in with the season already under way, and I’ve said all along I expect to see real results when he’s had a full pre-season with his players to get them to the right level physically for his style of play, while also being able to add his own signings – Joel Matip is already done and looks to be a statement signing.

“The fans are on board, and with a positive vibe around the whole club, who knows what’s possible?”

Liverpool missed out on a place in European competitions next season as they slumped to an eighth place finish in the Premier League.
