Jose Mourinho could lose Man United star to Barcelona – report

Barcelona could sign Manchester United star Juan Mata this summer, according to a report in Spain

Juan Mata is almost certain to leave Manchester United this summer with reports in Spain suggesting a move to Barcelona could be on the cards.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager.

The World Cup winner was sold to United by Mourinho in January 2014 after the 53-year-old deemed the former Valencia playmaker surplus to requirements at Old Trafford despite winning Chelsea’s player of the year in 2012 and 2013.

According to Catalan paper El Mundo Deportivo, Mata is an option for the La Liga champions this summer, with the playmaker’s value thought to have dropped since his £37.1m switch to Old Trafford.

The Spanish paper added that Mata has been close to signing for Barcelona on two occasions in the past.

The 28-year-old scored United’s equaliser in a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley earlier this month.
